“Saudi Arabia planning a coup against the Yemeni president”
On August 22, the Al-Sharq newspaper carried the following report: “Western reports revealed the existence of a deal between the Emirati and Saudi regimes, thanks to which the latter regime is to obtain the support of the former in the region and Washington while the latter is to abandon the Yemeni president Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi, and accepting a political solution in Yemen based on supporting the authority of the UAE’s men in the south. This means that Hadi might be ruled out in the near future, which paves the way for solving the situation in Yemen as Al-Riyadh will no longer be clinging to the man as a legitimate president and will be flipping against him in return of obtaining guarantees regarding its borders’ security whereby which, Al-Riyadh will obtain a safe exit and will secure the borders in return of abandoning Hadi and his team. In parallel, Abu Dhabi will be implementing its project of expansion especially in the south.

“These reports come as the latest email leaks of Youssef al-Otaiba, Abu Dhabi’s ambassador to Washington, included pieces of information indicating that Bin Salman told the former US ambassador to Israel, Martin Indyk, that he wants to leave Yemen as Saudi Arabia has been implicated in a war with no clear horizons for two years there. He further hinted to accepting a Saudi-Iranian rapprochement as long as this takes place under clear goals, an indication of the Saudi crown prince’s desire to solve the regional situation by reaching middle-ground solutions with Tehran through an American mediation.

“These pieces of information are highlighted through a number of signs carried by the visit of the Shi’i Iraqi leader, Moqtada al-Sadr, to Saudi Arabia recently including the fact that the Kingdom is heading in the direction of sharing power with Iran in the regional areas… This reflected on the development of the situation in Iraq, Syria, and Yemen. The visit provided an indication to a Saudi direction towards middle-ground solutions with Iran…

“In the same context, the Saudi Twitter user, Mujtahid, spoke about the leaking of a message from Bin Salman to the Houthis where he informed them about his willingness to give up on Hadi and replace him with someone else in return of them softening their position. However, the leaks reached Hadi in person who acted in an embarrassing way for Bin Salman. Mujtahid indicated that things became very hard for Salman in Yemen especially as the Houthis are psychologically manipulating him, and that Hadi has turned into a difficult problem, and the situation in the south is disastrous. Thus, the Saudi direction can be interpreted in terms of securing a safe exit from the Yemeni quagmire in light of the Emirati interests that have now become clear to the observers especially as Abu Dhabi has actually controlled a number of Yemeni islands in the Red Sea…”
